SEA Games boxing gold medalist reunites with family in Lubao

    LUBAO, Pampanga – Filipino- British boxer John Nobel Tupas Marvin visited his relatives in Sapang Bayu, San Agustin here over-the-weekend fresh from his gold medal performance in the recently concluded SEA Games 20217.

    Marvin recently bagged the gold medal in his light heavyweight match with Malaysian Boxer Adli Hapidz Bin Mohd Fauzi after the referee stopped the fight with only 21 seconds after the bell in Round 1.

    The quick technical knockout stunned the home town crowd in Kuala Lumpur during the August 24 finals match.

    Marvin said he is thankful for the opportunity to represent the country during the SEA Games. He also said he can’t thank his relatives enough for all of their support that is why he came for a visit.

    Marvin said he made frequent visits here with his family during early 2000s. However, his parents became busy and so weren’t able to return to Pampanga as often as before.

    Marvin is the son of Briton John Marvin Sr. and Filipino mother Teresita Tupas from this town. Marvin’s relatives from his grandparents to nieces and nephews welcomed him with a thanksgiving party. The celebration was held at his mother’s residence here, where his Kapampangan relatives gathered.

    Teresita said she was not surprised with her son’s boxing prowess during the 2017 SEA Games because she saw him train with passion and which showed the heart of a champion.

    Marvin’s niece, Julianne de Leon said her uncle is an inspiration to their family. She also said their whole family is proud of Marvin’s accomplishments in his boxing career.
