ANGELES CITY – Cases of coronavirus disease in Angeles City have reached 21, as three more cases were recorded in Barangays Balibago, Cutcut, and Lourdes North West, three days after the city was put under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

This was announced by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. on May 19 in his public address posted via City Information Office Facebook page.

Mayor Lazatin said two of the three new recorded COVID-positive patients were identified thru the prevalence survey conducted by the Provincial Government of Pampanga, in which the city was asked to randomly choose areas to gather samples for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) mass testing.

Upon the result, the City Government immediately conducted contact tracing and disinfection protocol, says Lazatin.

People living near the houses of newly-identified COVID-19 positive were immediately subjected to rapid testing.

All medical technologists and City Government employees involved in prevalence survey are now under quarantine and will be subjected to swab test immediately.

Of the total number of cases in the city, Mayor Lazatin said 13 have recovered, 6 are currently admitted in hospitals operating in the city, and 2 have succumbed to the viral disease.

He is appealing to his constituents to stay at home and limit movement outside of their home beyond getting essential needs.

“Hinihingi ko po na pairalin natin ang disiplina sa ating mga sarili. Kasabay nito, ang pagsunod natin sa mga regulasyon ng pamahalaan sa lahat ng oras,” he said.

Lazatin added said the city has strictly increased border measures in all entry and exit points, as well as in the barangay level.

“Ang maaari lang pong makalabas ng bahay ay yung mga health workers, frontliners, mga empleyado ng piling industriya na pinapayagang makapagtrabaho sa panahon ng MECQ, at yung mga bibili ng essential needs,” he said.

“This is being undertaken by the city to ensure the limitation in people’s movement,” he reiterated.

He also met with Barangay officials to implement stricter checkpoints and limit people’s movement.
