ZARAGOZA, Nueva Ecija – The police are pursuing three angles in the killing of Fr. Richmond Nilo, parish priest of Saint Vincent Ferrer here, according to Central Luzon police director, Chief Supt. Amador Corpus.

But Corpus, who conducted an ocular inspection on the crime scene late night Sunday, declined to give any hint as to the motives of the suspects.

“Hindi natin palalampasin itong ganitong insidente (We will not let this kind of incident pass),” Corpus said.

“The whole force of the regional police may be used if only to get into the bottom of the case,” he added.

“I have already received instructions from the Chief PNP na kung ano man ang kailangan (that whatever is needed) in investigating it, they will be supporting us,” he said.

He ordered the creation of a special investigation task group which is composed of the provincial and town police offices as well as the police crime laboratory office.

The two slugs and seven empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol recovered from the crime scene have been subjected to laboratory examinations and cross matching while a CCTV footage is being enhance for possible identification of the riding in tandem assailants, he said.

Meanwhile, the Diocese of Cabanatuan described the killing of Fr. Nilo as not only unchristian and inhuman but also as un-Filipino.

Bishop Sofronio Bancud said in a statement released on Monday that “no priest, and no human being for that matter, deserves to be killed with utter brutality, disrespect and impunity.”

He said “every priest, however imperfect, is God’s gift to His church and we are duty-bound to respect them as ambassadors of Christ.”

He asked the faithful to pray for Fr. Nilo”s soul, peace, healing and securities of our communities and for the clergy and the religious.

“We condemn in the strongest terms and mourn the brutal murder of Fr. Richmond V. Nilo and the escalating violence and culture of impunity in the country even against helpless clergymen,” Bancud’s statement said.

Fr. Nilo, 44, is also the financial administrator of the Diocese of Cabanatuan. He is the third priest to be killed in six months.
