CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Filipino Christmas vibe coming with the start of the
“Ber” months just got an “official” seal here with Mayor Vilma B. Caluag virtually
decreeing the public displays of Yuletide decorations on Sept. 1.

Caluag met Wednesday with the city’s nationally renowned lantern makers
Rolando Quiambao and Arvin Quiwa who presented her with the designs of lights
and lanterns to be installed in key areas of the city including the Jose Abad Santos
Avenue, City Hall, Heroes Hall, and portions of MacArthur Highway.

The mayor also called on restoring other traditions being practiced by
Fernandinos during Christmas season like the “Lubenas.”

The centerpiece of the annual Christmas celebration in the city is the century-old
“Ligligan Parul” or Giant Lantern Festival that draws thousands of spectators and
made the city the undisputed “Christmas Lantern Capital of the Philippines.”

The city government hosts this activity to stage Fernandino craftsmanship,
artistry, and faith through the iconic “Parul Sampernandu.” Punto Roving
