ANGELES CITY – United Kingdom-based thinktank Oxford Economics has ranked Angeles City 5th among the nine Philippine cities that made it to the top 1,000 global urban economies in its 2024 Global Cities Index.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. hailed the ranking as “a milestone for the people of Angeles City,” given as it is by Oxford Economics, the foremost independent economic advisory firm globally, renowned for its comprehensive economic analysis and consultancy services catering to businesses, governments, and organizations worldwide.

According to the said report, Angeles City ranked 502nd globally, based on five categories: economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance.

Based on Oxford’s in-depth analysis of the city’s five categories, Angeles City placed 498th in global rankings in the area of economics, 634th in human capital, 550th in quality of life; 191st in environment, and 614th in governance.

Angeles City’s strength lies in the environment category, said the Oxford Economics report.

The environment is among the flagship programs of Mayor Lazatin where the city government started its massive reforestation effort in 2020 at the Angeles City Watershed to increase water reserves which will benefit the city and the Metro Clark area.

To date, 79,715 trees had already been planted in the watershed under a project supervised by Lazatin’s chief adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel.

In the field of business, Lazatin’s marching order of “no tax collection increase” led to the city government’s consistent increase in its local revenue sources of more than P68 million for real property tax and more than P206 million for the collection of business tax. Angeles CIO
