Easytrip is hardtrip

When Easytrip Toll Card was offered to the regular users of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) at an affordable price with P300 automatic load to it and freebies from different affiliated restaurants, I grabbed the opportunity. Only to find out that I was taken by its fraudulent marketing and advertising schemes.

About two weeks ago, I entered the Balintawak Toll of the NLEX at around 9:45 P.M. I loaded P1,000 at the toll booth considering that I might not have enough load for the Easytrip. By about 11 P.M., I was already at the San Fernando Toll and entered the gate reserved for Easytag and Easytrip users. I was denied access. It took me sometime before the guard on duty maneuvered me to the next booth that has a “Green Arrow/E” sign. Again, the Easytrip did not work. I told the cashier that I just loaded P1,000 when I entered Balintawakand showed her my receipt. She told me that it takes their system three (3) hours before the payment would be posted online, then she told me to pay in cash.

I told the cashier that I do not have enough cash and if I do have, I would not pay in cash because I already made an advance payment of P1,000. She told me that I should complain with the company that owns the Easytrip and not with NLEX.

That made me literally mad, not with the cashier but with the system. How could NLEX be not responsible for the delayed system of its accredited Easytrip? And where will I complain at that dead hour? I argued with the cashier and told her that I will not pay in cash and she should let me pass. She told me that I have to sign a form. Seeing that other cars were already on queue, I told my driver to sign the form. It turned out that it was an IOU Form for failure to pay the toll of P89.00. And it took the lady 10 minutes to fill out the form and another 5 minutes after my driver signed it. Alas, I was able to pass the gate at 11:20 P.M.

I regret buying this Easytrip. First, it does not upload your payment immediately into the NLEX system. Imagine, it will take you 3 hours before your payment is posted online? It would not take that long to travel the whole of NLEX. Imagine, if you do not have sufficient load credit when you entered and actually paid to load at the exit booth, you cannot exit because what you paid would not be immediately credited. You still have to pay a separate cash for that particular entry, and can only use your current load credit after 3 hours. I am wondering why it has to take 3 hours for payment to be credited where in fact, they can debit online to your credit everytime you pass. Is this a case of credit later but debit now? Ridiculous!

Also, with Easytrip, you cannot determine your available balance on the toll gate’s screen. You just have to rely on the orange light everytime you pass, signaling you to pay ASAP.

My other car has an Easytag. I have no complain about this electronic devise. Payment is posted as you pay and your balance is reflected immediately on the screen as you pass. Why did NLEX management discard the further sale of Easytag? It opted to exclusively accredit Easytrip, despite the evident inferiority of Easytrip in terms of customer satisfaction with that of Easytag. Most probably, NLEX management was satisfied under the table.
