MALOLOS CITY—Joint elements of Bulacan police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT) are focusing on business as motive in the killing of two lovers in Meycauayan City on Sunday, but are not discounting other possibilities.

Supt. Demosthenes Reyes, the chief of police of Meycauayan City said that they are not leaving any stone unturned in the investigation of the murders of Jayson Hernandez of Valenzuela City and his girlfriend Caherine Esterban, a 22 year old village councilwoman and daughter of shoemaker Donald Esterban of Proest Philippines.

Both victims were found with gunshot wounds each on the head and blindfolded at the backseat of Esterban’s silver Mitsubishi Lancer parked at the back of a chapel inside Richmond Subdivision in Barangay Bahay Pare, Meycauayan City on Sunday.

Reyes admitted that they are having hard time in the investigation due to the complexity of the backgrounds of the victims, but they have asked the assistance of the CIDT in Bulacan.

“Hindi simpleng kaso ito, magkaiba ang background sa buhay ng mga biktima, pero malaki ang posibilidad na business ang motibo,” Reyes said in a telephone interview yesterday.

He said that Hernandez owns a taxi business that ferries clients from the airport, while Esterban’s family is involved in the leather shoe business for years.

Reyes added that they also found out that the victims have established their own rediscounting business where they invited other investors.

“Mga theory pa lang ito, wala pang malinaw na indikasyon,” the city police chief said.

He added that they are also studying the possibilities that the killers came not far from where the victims were left and abandoned.

Reyes said that the Richmond Subdivision chapel is almost at the boundary of Marilao town and Caloocan City.

“Liblib na lugar na iyon, pero alam pa ring puntahan ng mga suspects,” he said.

He also ruled out the possibility of robbery-holdup as motive because no other valuables were lost by the victims aside from their cellular phones.

Based on police investigation, the victims were shot dead inside Esterban’s car in another place and were abandoned at the back of Richmond Subdivision chapel.

They said that Esterban, who left their house on Saturday and went to Hernandez house in Valenzuela City was shot first.
