CLARK FREEPORT – Vice President Jejomar Binay said yesterday he owed his high survey ratings to Pres. Aquino for trusting him with a cabinet post.

“I am a creation of the President,” Binay said in an interview here after he met with local officials from all over Central Luzon for the Pabahay Caravan launched by the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) which he heads.

A survey done by Pulse Asia has revealed that Binay has remained the country’s most appreciated and most trusted government official. The survey was conducted from May 21 to June 4.

Binay scored a high 83 and 81 percent as approval and trust ratings, respectively, while Pres. Aquino got a 71-percent grade in both approval and trust ratings. Binay also said there was no basis for comparing his survey ratings with that of the President and that “I don’t want to compare in the first place.”

He stressed that he would not have earned high ratings in surveys had not the President trusted him by appointing him to the HUDCC. Binay said that if he were to rate the President in terms of performance, he would give him a “nine”, with 10 being the highest.

In the Pulse Asia survey, Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona rated the lowest in overall approval with 28 percent and also had the highest disapproval score 24 percent.

Pulse Asia said that from last March to May,  the only significant change in the overall performance ratings of the top five government officials is the 11-percentage point decline in the approval rating of House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. Belmonte scored essentially the same approval and indecision ratings (39 percent versus 37 percent).

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile enjoyed a 57-percent approval but had a 49-percent score in trust rating.
