CLARK FREEPORT – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said yesterday Typhoon Ompong affected at least 52,213 families or 219,602 persons in Central Luzon, even as relief operations continued amid improved weather.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional director Marlou Salazar also said the typhoon affected a total of 495 barangays in 40 municipalities and cities in the region.

“About 15,146 families or 56,818 persons are currently in evacuation centers,” she said, citing figures as of yesterday morning. Most of them were reported to have returned to their homes over the weekend.

The DSWD said its National Response and Logistics Management Service had delivered 3,000 food packs in affected parts of Central Luzon, amid a total of 4,665 packs initially prepared for distribution.

This, even as the Department of Health (DOH) deployed water sanitation and hygiene, medical, public health, nutrition, mental health and psychosocial services personnel in the worst-affected areas in Pampanga, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
