ANGELES CITY- – A 19-yearold woman compelled to show up before the police in Abucay, Bataan over the weekend after her husband in Paniqui, Tarlac reported her missing since last June 8 amid police suspicion she was kidnapped for ransom.

Police report from Camp Olivas said Darwin Rollan Mendoza of Paniqui sought police help last week, alleging that his wife Cheryl Obra Mendoza was missing since last June 8 and could have been abducted by her sister who had been opposed to their marriage.

Probers later theorized the case as kidnap-for-ransom after Darwin got text messages demanding titles to some properties and for him to sign documents.

The series of text messages from the same source in seven days enabled the police to track down the sender’s location via Global Position Recording System or GPRS. This revealed the sender’s location in Abucay, Bataan, prompting Paniqui police to seek the help of Abucay police director Chief Inspector Karl Jayson Dela Cruz.

The police said the GPRS located the sender within 500 meters from a Globe tower in Abucay where local police established checkpoints in probable locations in Barangays Bentanilla and Camarinan.

The Abucay police also assigned Inspector Marty Calara to lead a group whose members posed as farmers to track down the missing wife.

Sensing the trouble she had created, Cheryl showed up Saturday at the Abucay police station to declare she was never abducted and that she simply ran away from her husband whom she had married over a year ago.

Abucay policewomen, however, convinced her to return to her husband in Paniqui and advised them to just undergo marriage counselling at the social welfare office.

No charges were filed against Cheryl for the trouble she caused.
