Palayan City mayor runs for NE gov

CABANATUAN CITY – Palayan City Mayor Adrianne Mae Cuevas was the earliest bird to file a certificate of candidacy for the governorship of Nueva Ecija at the Commission on Elections provincial office here Friday.

Her running mate, former Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson was represented by his counsel Bembol Castillo in filing his COC.

The two are expected to slug it out with incumbent Gov. Aurelio Umali and his brother, incumbent Vice Gov. Anthony Umali.

Cuevas, national treasurer of the PDP-Laban-Cusi Wing, was followed by her slate for the sangguniang panlalawigan, including actor Jayson Abalos of the second district.

She vowed to extend to the province what she accomplished for her city, particularly on employment, health, and other services.

Cuevas’ daughter, 25-year-old Vianne, also filed her candidacy for mayor of Palayan City, along with her vice mayoralty and sangguniang panlungsod team.

Gapan City Mayor Emerson Pascual, also of PDP-Laban, filed his COC for representative of Nueva Ecija’s fourth congressional district.

He will challenge incumbent Rep. Maricel Nagaño. Pascual defeated Nagano in the city’s mayoralty post in 2016.

The Comelec, along with the Nueva Ecija police provincial office and the Army’s 7th Infantry Division, strictly enforced security and public health standards whitin its premises.
