Liquor ban lifted, ‘tagayan’ still prohibited

CABANATUAN CITY The liquor ban here has been lifted but tagayan using a common glass in a round-robin sequence in drinking sprees remained a punishable offense, per an executive order issued by Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara.

Vergara’s EO 2020-024 An order lifting the ban on liquor, other intoxicating and alcoholic beverages, and regulating the sale, distribution, and consumption of the same that took effect on Friday, Sept. 18, also prohibits the use of single plate as well as spoon and fork while drinking liquor.

Under the EO, the selling and buying of liquor is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday through Friday only. One can only buy a maximum of four bottles or cans of less than 500ml or two bottles or cans of 500ml or a liter in a day.

Beer, wine or hard drinks can only be consumed in a private place or residence as drinking in public such in stores, restaurants, roads, plaza, and other places is prohibited under the EO.

“Hanggang lima katao lamang ang maaaring magkakasama kung iinom ng alak. Panatilihin pa rin ang social distancing sa lahat ng oras,” said the city information and tourism office.

No drinking within the 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew period shall be allowed, it added.

“Ang sinumang indibidwal na mahuhuling lumabag dito ay magkakaroon ng kaukulang parusa na naaayon sa batas, the CITO said, adding that establishments that will violate the EO may suffer from cancellation of business permit.
