MABALACAT CITY – In order to accommodate more consumers and provide better service, Mayor Crisostomo Garbo divulged his plan on renovating the city’s public market building located along MacArthur highway, Barangay San Francisco.

According to Garbo, the local government of Mabalacat will allot Php100-200 million budget for the repair and renovation of the said building.

Based on the initial plan, the ground floor will house the wet section of the market while the 2nd floor will be allotted for the non-food items and LGU offices, and the 3rd floor will be for the parking space.

A 965-square-meter lot is also being eyed for the expansion of the public market. The city’s Urban Poor Affairs Office (UPAO) are also doing the mapping to help relocate the families who currently reside in the mentioned area.

In addition to this, a solar lighting system will also be installed and used in the renovated public market to help save on electricity consumption and sustain the operation of the stores even during power interruptions.

Garbo also met with the Market Vendors Association to discuss the adjustment of the rental fees, and he reminded the members about the rules and regulations on doing business within the public market.

The renovation of the public market building is set to start around the second half of 2023.
