Drug suspect killed in buy-bust

SAN JOSE CITY — A suspected drug pusher was killed while his cohort managed to escape in a buy-bust operation in Zone 5, Barangay Sto. Tomas here at around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Nueva Ecija police director Col. Rhoderick Campo said Jaymar dela  Cruz, resident of Encarnacion Subdivision, Barangay Sto. Niño 1st, this city was killed in a brief firefight with drug enforcement unit and intelligence operatives of the San Jose City police station.

His unidentified cohort, who also fired a handgun, managed to escape on board a black motorcycle, police said.

Investigation showed that operatives led by city police chief Lt. Col. Crizelda de Guzman conducted the buy-bust in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

“When the transaction was consummated, the suspects sensed that they transacted with a police officer then they pulled their  short firearms and fired at the operating troops that ensued into firefight,” an investigation report showed.

Forensic probers seized from the place of encounter one .38 revolver, one sachet with five grams of shabu (estimated value: P35,000) and the marked money, police added.
