TARLAC CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has registered via satellite means some 400 inmates at the city jail here to enable them to vote, also via satellite, in next year’s polls.

“This activity intends to give our Persons Deprived of Liberty the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the coming national and local elections,” Tarlac City jail inspector Sergio Tomas said.

From the figure, 40 are from the female dormitory and the remainder from the male dormitory.

“On election day next year, Comelec will be holding satellite voting here,” Tomas added. The Comelec is expected to register in the same manner inmates in other parts of the country. In behalf of the inmates, Manny Yumul thanked the Comelec, saying allowing them to vote was “uplifting.”

“We thank Comelec for this and I hope our government will continue to help us so that we can have a better life not just inside the jail but also in our respective communities,” Yumul added.
