MARIVELES, Bataan — The operators of the largest coal-fired power plants in the country located in Barangay Alas-Asin here conducted a two-day scholar’s development convergence that concluded Wednesday.

GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) have chosen 45 out of 500 scholarship applicants who will each receive up to P60,000 per year as allowance and up to P30,000 financial aid for their board examinations.

During the activity, the scholars were told to create project proposals for their chosen beneficiaries to be implemented by GMEC and GNPD with a budget allocation of P50,000 each for two selected recipients.

The convergence has for its theme “Build the Future Today” and utilized training and activities that focused on self-awareness, community engagement and team building.

The scholars were divided into groups and introduced to different games such as Up, Down, Shake, Pump and Spaghetti and Macaroni Game, that allowed them to socialize, build camaraderie among their newly found acquaintances, and enhance community awareness.

The guest speakers were Arcel Madrid, GMEC – GNPD AVP for community relations; Clarissa Bambo, GMEC – GNPD stakeholder & public relations supervisor; education advocate and leader Gab Bautista; and PTV 4 anchor and mental health advocate Ruslan Kulikov.

The 2023 Scholar’s Development Convergence is a flagship program under the recently launched Corporate Social Responsibility branding of GMEC-GNPD that features programs aimed at achieving educational excellence by elevating educational opportunities for the community.

GMEC and GNPD said that as home to the largest coal-fired power plants in the country, they are committed to not only delivering reliable and affordable energy solutions to Filipinos but also empowering progress through social programs like this academic scholarship.
