CLARK FREEPORT – China is the largest market of Mercedes-Benz cars in the world, with more than 400,000 units sold for 2017.

This was declared by Heiko A. Nitsche, president and CEO of Mercedes- Benz Group Services Philippines, Inc. (MBGSP), during the inauguration of its new office building here recently.

“When it comes to markets, by far the largest market of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz as of today is China where we are selling more than 400,000 Mercedes-Benz cars or even much better,” he said.

Nitsche said the second largest market is the USA with more than 300,000 Mercedes-Benz cars sold while the third is Germany where “we sell 230,000 to 240,000 Mercedes Benz cars,” he added.

Nitsche said six years ago Daimler found the Philippines “because of the great talent” pointing out the outstanding local employment for its services out of the Philippines.

“This is in terms of servicing our Daimler and Mercedes-Benz companies which bring further significant growth here,” he said.

“We will grow both in Cebu and in Clark over the next years. We are focused on fi nance and accounting operations but we also expand that scope in terms of content and in terms of regions,” he added.

“As of today, we are serving 25 countries around the world with operations roundthe- clock, five days a week.”

Nitsche said China is “a very important market” and is served out of the Philippines: “So, we are supporting our Chinese subsidiaries out of the Philippines on the admin sector.”

“We also support Mercedes Benz US from the Philippines as well as Germany,” he said.

“So roughly speaking, what we are supporting in terms of our global sales is about 85 percent out of the Philippines.”

Mercedes-Benz is the company that stands behind Daimler Group, the biggest producer of premium cars and the world’s biggest manufacturer of commercial vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz is the premium brand of Daimler Group which is the 17th largest company in the world and hires about 284,000 employees worldwide, Nitsche said, who set-up shop in the Philippines in Cebu in 2011.

MBGSP is a Shared Service Center providing shared services and consulting to the Mercedes- Benz sales organizations in the Asia Pacific region as well as support the already established Shared Service Center in Madrid, Spain.

The entity is envisioned to provide stateof-the-art Financial Administration, Accounting, and Consultancy services for all Daimler Group subsidiaries represented in the whole Asia Pacific region, North America as well as back-office support for its offices in Europe.
