Canadian execs visit DMIA

    CLARK FREEPORT – “Activity begets interest.” Thus said Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) President and CEO Victor Jose Luciano as he welcomed Manitoba, Canada officials here Wednesday night.

    Luciano showed Manitoba Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Flor Marcelino presentations about the development at this Freeport, CIAC and its airport, Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA).

    He disclosed that there are almost 80 flights per month at DMIA, of which about 70 are international flights.

    Luciano also announced that Jin Air Airlines will begin flights to South Korea at the end of the month. 

    Luciano said he had urged the visiting officials to help them develop flights to Canada via DMIA. He added that the Canada-based West Jet Airlines is the “prime target for the Clark-Manitoba route.”

    Marcelino, for her part, said she was delighted to be at Clark.

    She said Manitoba and Clark “are quite similar being located in a center of a country.”

    This, she added, “makes both areas strategically located, allowing them to be crossroad for development.” 

    Tehani Janarine, director of the multi-culturalism for Manitoba, said thatn Clark and their province in Canada “both thrive on eco-tourism.”  She added that her office will work closely with Clark officials to help boost the potentials of both places.

    A province known for having over 110,000 lakes, Manitoba is host to more than 50,000 Filipinos, most of whom are working in the province.  

    Mohinder Saran, member of the Legislative Assembly in Manitoba, said their visit was also intended to stress to the workers in Manitoba, including the Filipinos, that they are “treated well and equally.”
