CLARK FREEPORT – The city government has relegated the preparations and management of the “Maleldo 2018” to village chiefs to mark the observance of the Holy Week.

Alberto “Boy” Santiago, chair of the city’s Maleldo 2018, said the city government will just provide the funds to the city’s 35 barangays for support and will allow the village chiefs to set their own pace in the observance of the Holy Week.

Santiago made the announcement at the “News@Hues” media forum organized by the Pampanga Press Club in cooperation with Park Inn Hotel Clark by Radisson here on Tuesday.

But he clarified that the city government will still monitor the peace and order as well as the security especially in Barangay San Pedro Cutud where some 300,000 people are expected to flock on Good Friday to watch the annual crucifi xion of flagellants being staged in the village.

According to Santiago, Barangay San Pedro Cutud, headed by Barangay Captain Zoilo Castro, will receive P250,000 subsidy from the city government while nearby barangays San Juan and Sta. Lucia will get P150,000 each and the rest P15,000 each.

He also said the city government will be providing logistical support like tents, chairs, barriers and traffic management during the observance of Lent.

The Public Order and Safety Coordinators Office headed by Raymond Del Rosario who is also the concurrent chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, will be in charge of traffic and security, Santiago said.

Abigail David, city information officer, said an Incident Command System (ICS) will be established by the city government to monitor the peaceful and orderly observance of Lent in the city.
