ANGELES CITY – “Corruption is contagious. It may affect the other good congressmen.”

Thus said first district congressional candidate Luisito “Chito” Bacani when asked to comment about the candidacy of his rival, City Councilor Ares Yabut for the 2010 elections.

“I have spoken with several people lately and they all complained the alleged corruption tied up with Yabut such as the slaughterhouse and Pampang market projects and the Fields Avenue extortion activities,” said Bacani, who ran but lost in the 2007 congressional elections.

“There are so many alleged corruptions alluded to Yabut. We will all reveal them as we near the election. The people ought to know whom they should vote for,” he added.

Bacani said “Yabut seems not satisfied yet (being a three-term councilor), he now sets his eyes on a congressional seat.”

Yabut, for his part, said he “has no qualms against Bacani.”

“It’s Bacani’s right in a democratic nation. But I consider Tarzan as my opponent because he is the champ,” said Yabut, referring to First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.

Yabut said Lazatin had frequently compared him to Bacani and “it may fall back against the solon.”

“They may vote for Bacani instead of Tarzan when the solon always mentions him. Tarzan may end up last in the race and Bacani second,” said Yabut, expressing confidence that he will come up victorious in the three-way congressional race.

“The votes for me will stay intact,” he added.
