CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Capitol area of Bulacan’s provincial government is undergoing a literal upgrade amid unusual weather threats from climate change that could trigger floodings.

Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado said all roads within the Capitol compound near the MacArthur Highway in Malolos City would be concretely elevated within the next three years.

The total cost of the entire project has been estimated at a maximum of P89 million.

He said that already, the trade fair grounds in front of the Blas F. Ople building has already been elevated several feet above its former level at the cost of P2.8 million. The area is yearly venue for the Singkaban Festival, Diskwento Caravan and other fairs.

Engineer Glen Reyes of the Provincial Engineering Offi ce (PEO) said the Capitol roads would be raised to the level of the already elevated MacArthur Highway. Earlier, roads within the nearby Bulacan State University had already been raised to level with the highway.

The elevation project would also cover the former campus of the Marcelo del Pilar High School, as well as the road from the corner of Henrel’s business establishment near the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convetion Center and the Bulacan Rescue Office through the road towards the right towards the Bulacan Medical Center up to Barasoain Elementary School, Reyes said.

He also said all roads around the Capitol building, as well as connecting roads through Gusaling Kainan, small commercial establishments, the Regional Trial Court building and the Capitol gymnasium and Hardin ng mga Bayani at Sining would be raised.

Reyes said that his office is also preparing for the construction of two new buildings to replace the Hiyas Galeria which was constructed in the 1970’s. The old building would be demolished, he added.
