OLONGAPO CITY — As part of its corporate social responsibility program, the Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower), and the Olongapo Solar Power Plant, in partnership with the city government and Barangay Kalaklan, held a coastal cleanup initiative dubbed “Ating Baybayin, Responsibilidad Natin!”
More than 250 volunteers from the LGU’s various offices, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine National Police, Environmental Sanitation Management Office, and Bureau of Fire joined the coastal cleanup drive on May 19 along the coastline of Barangay Kalaklan.
Mikaela Buendia, Solar Project Development manager of Solar Aboitiz Renewables, Inc said this activity helped amplify awareness regarding the importance of marine conservation and the vital role of community partnerships in protecting natural resources.
“Being a good neighbor means showing up – not only for development, but also for the environment we share with the people of Olongapo. The strong volunteer turnout reflects a community that genuinely cares for its coastline, and we are proud to work alongside them in protecting it for future generations,” Buendia said.
The activity resulted in the collection of 874 kilogram of trash and debris which were disposed of at the dump site under the supervision of the city’s ESMO.
By clearing nearly a ton of waste from the coast, volunteers helped restore water flow and reduce environmental risks for residents living near the shoreline.
“We will continue to hold various coastal and river clean up drives in the future and other programs related to health, environmental consciousness efforts and education as part of our commitment in our host area of responsibility,” said Buendia
