STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija – Two policemen were wounded when fired at by two men while conducting an anti-drugs surveillance operation in Barangay Poblacion here at about 10:30 p.m., June 20.
The wounded lawmen were identified as Staff Sergeants Bryan Raymundo and Rommel Abad, both assigned at the municipal police’s drug enforcement unit.
Police said one of the suspects, Israel Andres, a farmer of the same village, was arrested while his alleged cohort identified as Allan Maliwat, a mechanic from Barangay Hulo, managed to escape.
Investigation disclosed the cops were officially dispatched at 7 p.m. Tuesday “for casing and surveillance for possible anti-criminality and anti-drugs operation.”
At about 10:30 p.m., two men on board a tricycle (373 CKP) “suddenly stopped along the road and without apparent reason fired several shots to the direction of the policemen using a still undisclosed caliber.”
Raymundo was hit on his stomach and Abad in his right arm.
The victims were brought to a hospital as a follow-up operation resulted to identification of the suspects.
Police have not disclosed who the subject of the surveillance was.
Charges of frustrated murder were being leveled against the suspects.
