CABANATUAN CITY – A member of the House committee on constitutional amendments on Saturday dismissed reports that the proposed changes in the Constitution will pave the way for term extension of elected officials.
Nueva Ecija 3rd District Rep. Rosanna Vergara maintained that the Charter change will stick to economic provisions to allow foreign ownership to certain enterprises.
“Hindi talaga pakikialaman yung term limits,” Vergara said. ” O yung mga sinasabi ng iba na magiging daan ito para walang election. Sa aking nakikita ngayon yun ay fake news.“
She explained that legislators would also not even touch on land domain. “Sabi nila it’s very sensitive,” she said.
The proposal to amend the Constitution which is eyed to boost the country’s economy is still at the committee level.
But Vergara stressed that even if both houses of Congress come up with their respective proposals, it is the people who will have the ultimate decision.
“Itong mga gagawin namin panukala ay kailangan pa ring dumaan sa plebesito. Ito ay kailangan pa ring i-ratify ng taumbayan,” she said.
The plebiscite, she said, is seen to come with the forthcoming national elections.
“Ang taumbayan pa rin ang masusunod at the end of the day,” she said.
