BALANGA CITY — Gov. Albert Garcia on Saturday said he has directed the provincial police office to inspect factories in Bataan using raw materials that may cause explosion and ascertain that they will not pose danger similar to what recently happened in Beirut, Lebanon.
The governor said he instructed the police to start with the ports in Mariveles and Limay towns and the economic zones in Mariveles and Hermosa.
“Kailangang masiguro na sila ay sumusunod sa lahat ng safety standards and protocols at maiwasan natin ang mga aksidente o hindi sinasadyang pagsabog,” Garcia said.
He said he just met with officials of Orica in Limay, manufacturer of explosives used in mining, who assured him that safety standards are being strictly implemented in the company.
Orica, formerly known as Philippine Explosives, is located in Barangay Lamao in Limay.
“Maingat daw sila at mapagkakatiwalaan ang kanilang mga safety standards at walang panganib na magkakaroon ng aksidente o pagsabog tulad ng nangyari sa Beirut,” the governor said.
“Kinumpirma ni Orica safety officer Philip de Jesus na bagama’t ang ammonium nitrate ay raw material sa paggawa ng explosives, sinisiguro nila na walang dapat ikabahala ang pamahalaan lalo na’t mayroon na silang 51 taon na malinis na track record,” Garcia added.
