MEXICO, Pampanga – A 28-year old jail guard detailed at the Pampanga  Capitol was shot to death in a daylight ambush in front of a gas station in Barangay San Antonio, Mexico yesterday morning.

Supt. Niel Miro, chief of police of Mexico, identified the victim as Christman Allan Lapus of Barangay Camba, Arayat town.

Lapus was on his way to Arayat on board a Honda Civic car when he was waylaid by motorcycle-riding-suspect.  The suspects fled heading Arayat town, according to sketchy police report.

Police said bystanders rushed the victim to the nearby Mexico Community Hospital where he expired while undergoing surgery.

In his report to Senior Supt. Oscar Albayalde, acting Pampanga police director,  Miro said Lapus suffered four gunshot wounds in the body and was rushed to a nearby hospital but died a few hours later.

Police sources said they are looking into the killing as a “possible crime of passion.” The victim reportedly had a “secret affair” with the alleged girlfriend of one of the inmates at the provincial jail. The inmate is said to be a former member of the Rebolusyunaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB) charged for illegal possession of firearms and explosives last year.

The sources said Lapus was reportedly transferred to the Pampanga Capitol after his superior discovered his alleged affair with a certain “Diana”.

Miro said police probers are still evaluating all information gathered from crime scene and people privy to the victim’s activities.

Scene of the crime operatives recovered four spent casings for caliber .45 pistol,  the police report said.
