CABANATUAN CITY – Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara ordered an indefinite suspension of classes, in all levels in both public and private, schools starting Saturday, March 14, as per Executive Order 2020-005 issued on Friday.
In her EO, Vergara stressed that the temporary suspension of classes was part of preventive measures “to avoid, contain and mitigate the possible transmission of the Covid-19.”
Vergara issued the EO in the wake of President Duterte’s declaration of a State of Public Health Emergency under Proclamation No. 922 that enjoined all national agencies and local government units to immediately act to prevent loss of life.
Vergara said the city government shall periodically evaluate whether such suspension shall continue, depending on the prevailing conditions and upon the advice of the Department of Health.
This city, dubbed as the trade and education center of Nueva Ecija where students come from as far as northern and eastern parts of Luzon, is host to various huge schools, universities, and colleges.
In Jaen, Mayor Sylvia Austria is mulling an executive order against hoarding of basic needs pertaining to containing and mitigating the spread of Covid-19.
This was disclosed by the local chief executive after an emergency meeting with members of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council on Friday, March 13.
The EO, that will be circulated to malls and stores here, is aimed at reinforcing existing rules and regulations against hoarding amid reports that some unscrupulous businessmen were taking advantage of the situation.
Sangguniang bayan member lawyer Sylvester Austria said checkpoints will be set up in all the 27 villages of Jaen to monitor the entry and exit of people, especially visitors and returning overseas Filipino workers.
These checkpoints, he said, are tasked only to get vital information about such people, not to make life harder for them, but only to collate data for possible back tracing or contact tracing.
“Mahalaga lang na makuha natin ang mga impormasyon kung sakali na kailangan ang contact tracing,” he explained.
