Village chief, farmer nabbed for guns, ammo

SAN MARCELINO, Zambales – A barangay chairman here and a farmer in San Narciso town were arrested by elements of CIDG Zambales and Zambales Police Provincial Office (ZPPO) for possession of firearms and ammunitions.

Senior Inspector Jay DC Calderon, CIDG provincial chief, identified the village chief as Eduardo Lopez y Galman Sr. aka Halo-halo, 61, of Barangay Aglao, San Marcelino.

Lopez was arrested by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Roline Ginez-Jabalde of RTC-Branch 74 of Olongapo City.

Recovered from the barangay chair was a virtual arsenal consisting of a .45 Colt pistol with serial number 901224, six magazine assemblies for .45, 89 bullets for .45, four empty .45 shells, one .25 pistol, one magazine assembly for .25, one 12-gauge shotgun marked AKKAR Altay with SN No 10102939, two 12-gauge shotgun ammo, one rifle of undetermined caliber, one piece M203/CTG 40 MM MD explosive, 101 bullets for 5.56 caliber, 53 bullets for .22, three .22 Magnum bullets, 10 .380 live ammo, four .9MM live ammo, five .25 live ammo, one .32 live ammo, five magazine assemblies (short) for M-16, three (3) magazine assemblies (long) for M-16, a rifle pouch bag, a pistol case, and a leather holster.

Police said Lopez failed to show pertinent documents on the firearms and ammunitions.

The suspect is now detained at the CIDG detention cell facing charges for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions) before the Provincial Prosecutor Office in Olongapo City.

In San Narciso, Zambales, farmer Samuel Obispo y Callejo, 45, of Barangay Omaya was arrested by Zambales PNP by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Vicente S. Fernandez Jr. of the San Narciso Municipal Trial Court.

Recovered from Obispo were one .45 pistol loaded with five bullets, one magazine assembly .45 loaded with seven bullets, one Arsmcor .38 revolver loaded with five bullets, one long barreled .22 pistol, one improvised .22 pistol, and six live ammunitions for .22 place inside a small cup with cover.

The suspect now faces charges for violation of RA 10591(Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions) before the Office of Provincial Prosecutor in Iba, Zambales.
