MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs has presented a plaque of commendation to Police BGen. Jose Manalad Jr., chief of the Firearms and Explosives Office of the Philippine National Police, in recognition of his 35 years of service and appreciation of the invaluable assistance extended by the FEO under his leadership—particularly in expediting firearms and security clearances for foreign diplomatic missions and visiting delegations in the Philippines.
One of several Kapampangans who made it to star rank, Manalad will officially be relinquishing his position as FEO chief and will be retiring from the service when he turns 56 on Sept. 7.
Born, raised, and educated in Angeles City, Manalad was among the pioneer batch of police officers from Pampanga who joined the PNP following its creation under RA 6975 (Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990) that created the national, civilian Philippine National Police merging the Philippine Constabulary and the Integrated National Police.
A member of the Philippine National Police Academy Sandigan Class of 1994, the bemedaled officer belongs to the first generation of PNPA-trained officers to enter active service entirely under the newly established civilian police force. He also holds the distinction of being the first Angeleño graduate of the PNPA to be promoted to brigadier general.
After receiving his commission in 1994, General Manalad went on to serve in various capacities in Angeles and other parts of the country. He also served overseas as a peacekeeper with the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste.
