BALER, Aurora (PIA) — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) signed a memorandum of agreement with Wesleyan University–Philippines (WUP) to deploy students as on-the-job trainees in Aurora.
This partnership links the university with the national skills authority to give students hands-on exposure in technical and vocational education and training programs.
TESDA Aurora Provincial Director Nomer Pascual said the collaboration allows young people to apply what they learn in school to real training environments, while helping TESDA expand its reach to communities across Aurora
“Through this partnership, student trainees will actively support our training delivery, assessment activities, and community-based programs while gaining firsthand experience on how the TVET system operates,” Pascual pressed.
The collaboration will follow TESDA Training Regulations, includes regular consultation with industry partners, and ensures compliance with competency standards guided by labor market information.
Participating students may also take skills assessment to earn National Certificates, which are industry-recognized credentials that can raise employability in local and overseas labor markets.
Meanwhile, TESDA and WUP are exploring the inclusion of additional qualifications and courses aligned with regional needs and the university’s training capacity.
The proposed qualifications include information and communications technology, bookkeeping, and trainers’ methodology programs that respond to the current skills demand in the province.
“We are looking at programs that match both industry requirements and the capacity of the university, so graduates are better prepared for available jobs,” he added.
TESDA continues to work with private schools and industry partners to widen access to skills training and strengthen pathways from education to work.
This partnership will support job growth and reinforce the local economy by producing skilled and certified workers who can help draw business and investment to the province. (CLJD/MJRD, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
