CDC heats up solar energy drive in Clark

TAGUIG CITY — In a bid to advance renewable energy, Clark Development Corp. presented the solar potential of Clark Freeport Zone to Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla on Dec. 2.

CDC president and CEO Atty. Agnes VST Devanadera showcased the 20 locators with existing solar rooftop installations and identified 23 additional locators with potential rooftop space in the freeport. She highlighted the benefits and aimed to help businesses leverage incentives to improve efficiency and sustainability.

During the meeting, Devanadera shared insights from the 2023 study, “Shedding Sunlight on Clark’s Potential for Rooftop Solar,” by Thinking Machines Data Science. The study identified 246 hectares of potential rooftop space in Clark Freeport, with an estimated solar installation capacity of 246 MW.

This presentation followed a recent discussion with Asec. Mylene Capongcol, director of the Renewable Energy Management Bureau at the Department of Energy, about the DOE’s enhanced rooftop policy and the Expanded Roof-Mounted Solar Program (ERSP).

CDC aims to fully utilize this potential through various initiatives and collaboration with the DOE. Currently, only 1.3% of the potential solar rooftop area in Clark is being used, and CDC is dedicated to increasing this figure.

The ERSP’s goals align closely with CDC’s commitment to promoting renewable energy within the Clark Freeport Zone.
