TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – The municipal government here reimposed stricter quarantine rules after eight Delta variant cases were recorded amid a surge in coronavirus disease infections.

Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez sought the understanding of her constituents over the imposition of a liquor ban and limiting to only three days wakes within the town. Also, only immediate family members shall be allowed to attend the wake even if the dead is not a confirmed Covid-19 case.

“Medyo nakakaalarma po ulit yung ating mga cases dahil pataas nang pataas” Santos said in a video address to the public on Tuesday night. As of that date, she said, the town has 84 active cases, excluding four antigen positive cases. “Yan po ay yung reported lang. Hindi po kasama diyan hindi nai-report sa atin yung mga nagpa-antigen sa iba’t ibang private clinics or (health) centers,” she added.

The Delta cases, Martinez said, cause alarm. “Yan po ang nakakatakot at nakakaalarma,” she said, noting that cases surge in all places, including nearby municipalities.

“So kailangan po nating mag-implement ng mga strict measures para po ma-contain po natin itong tumataas na bilang ng mga Covid cases sa ating bayan,” the mayor stressed.

“Sana po ay mag-iingat po tayo at maging responsable hindi amang sa ating sarili kung hindi maging sa ating mga pamilya,” Martinez appeals.

The order is effective up to August 31.

Meanwhile, nearly 20,000 residents here have been vaccinated, some 9,000 with the first dose and 10,000 fully vaccinated, she said.

“Tuloy-tuloy po ang ating vaccination kaya puwede po kayong mag-rehistro online or magpalista po kayo sa mga barangay officials,” she added.
