36 arrested for violation of firecrackers law in CL

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A total of 36 persons were arrested by the police in Central Luzon before the New Year’s day revelry started, and they were charged with violation of Republic Act 7183 regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.

    This, as the police reported that illegal firecrackers worth P695,000 have been confiscated by the police in the region before local folk ushered in the year 2013.

    Regional police director Chief Supt. Edgardo Ladao said a total of 97 injuries were reported in Central Luzon, most of them in Bulacan which is the country’s major supplier of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic products during the New Year.

    Ladao said the police closed down two stores in Bocaue, Bulacan for selling prohibited firecrackers, and arrested 36 persons for various violations of the law on firecrackers and pyrotechnic products.

    “Among the confiscated firecrackers include Goodbye Philippines, Giant Plapla, Giant Lolo, Giant Bawang, Bin Laden, Kwiton Bomb, Kabasi and Piccolo,” Ladao said.

    The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has reported that Central Luzon ranked third among the region with most fireworks-related injuries in the country. Topping the list was Metro Manila with 214, followed by Ilocos region with 126.
