CLARK FREEPORT – Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. (YTPI) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the municipal government of adjacent Bamban, Tarlac to support a sustainable livelihood program that promotes recycling by making use of scrap rubber materials.

The MoU was signed by YTPI president-CEO Yasuhiro Kurokawa while the LGU was represented by its Mayor Jose Antonio “Jon” Feliciano. YTPI public relations and communications officer Maylene P. Talagon said the program was an initiative of the municipal office of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Talagon described the livelihood program as “footwear-making skills training” which aims to engage Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps’ beneficiaries with an income-generating project.

Some 30 beneficiaries from 15 selected barangays underwent a five-day training on sewing and footwear production in DSWD Training Center in the said Tarlac town.

For his part, Feliciano expressed his gratitude to YTPI: “This project will not be possible without the kindness of Yokohama and its compassion in uplifting the lives of its communities. As a mayor, I am very thankful that the company had granted our request knowing that scrap tires do not come for free and could contribute to higher income for each beneficiary.”

On the other hand, Kurokawa said “reaching out to our communities through corporate social responsibility is on top of our commitment. It is our pleasure to help and contribute to the society.”

YTPI has marked a milestone with its CSR initiatives as the livelihood program with Bamban is the company’s first collaboration with a municipal government.
