MARIVELES, Bataan — A group of village officials on foot made the rounds of an upland barangay here and distributed candies to children in Halloween costume while waiting in front of their homes Sunday near dusk to evening.

Barangay Alion chairman Al Balan and other village officials, all in Halloween attires too, held their house-to-house version of trick or treat.

Balan reminded every participant to follow health and safety protocols like social distancing and the wearing of face mask.

The village head said the children will just have to wait in their houses and he will see to it that all kids, especially those in Halloween costume, will be given packs of candies.

“Ito ay ang trick or treat kasi nga pandemic at kailangang maramdaman naman ng mga bata na kahit kaunting oras mabigyan naman sila ng importansya kasi actually hindi na sila nakakalabas,” Balan said, noting that the coronavirus disease has deprived children of their regular activities.

“Malungkot talaga ang buhay ng mga bata ngayon kaya nag-isip kami na kahit pandemic eh mag-ikot at mamigay kami ng mga candies,” he said.

Some children received special prizes for outshining the others in look and attire.

Balan said the barangay has been holding trick or treat for already three years and hopes to continue it every year “to bring joy to the kids.”
