The beneficiaries of SM City Cabanatuan’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) that was extended via the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program were the DS Garcia Elementary School (DSGES) and JP Melencio Memorial Elementary School (JPMMES), both of this city.
Ma. Agelita Agaton, human resource manager of SM Megacenter, said they hoped to have brought “new life to the DSGES library through repainting and redesigning with new bookshelves and donated books from employees.”
The school was picked by the SM City Cabanatuan while SM Megacenter Cabanatuan team participated in the repainting, clean-up, restoration of four classrooms in JPMMES.
Maricel Candido, school principal of DSGES, said that they are very happy sharing efforts with SM employees in providing good and new learning environment for children for upcoming school opening.
“Some of SM employees came from our school. We very happy and excited to see them coming back as successful professionals to help us here in this kind of activity to motivate our students so that they became like them in the future” said Candido.
“This is a humbling experience for us. It inspires us to work harder. The most fun part is the teamwork that all volunteers had during the whole activity. Through CRS programs we are being reminded that we need to also share our blessings to others in our own simple ways” said Mark Angel Galang, mall operation assistant manager.
This activity also became a bonding experience for Ramil Manapol, warehouse supervisor, and his son Rei Carlos Manapol, 8, who joined the activity to help his father.
“Sumama po ako para tumulong at para matuto din po sa ginagawa ni papa (I came with my father to help and also learn from him).” said Rei Carlo.
SM, which has won local and international awards for its CSR campaigns through SM Cares gives its employees opportunities to be part of various programs for persons with disability (PWD), elderly, children, women, senior citizens, and less privileged communities.
As commitment to happily serve the public, SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter Cabanatuan employees vow to continue to take part in different community-related programs as their way of giving back to people who always support and patronize the mall.
