CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Disaster management officials in this province have passed a resolution reprogramming and augmenting P3.5 million of their 2015 calamity fund to better fit the needs of local folk victimized by Typhoon Lando.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Angelina Blanco said the move “was meant to boost the existing programs and services of the provincial government focused along housing, cash and food for work assistance to reduce the impact of any disaster, especially among those who are affected by Typhoon Lando.”

“Our Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) requested more funds because most of the amount which was allocated for the provision of various aid was already used up as the province is faced with different forms of unexpected disasters and occurrences which include fire, tornado, and prevalence of dengue as a result of climate change,” Blanco explained.

Under the approved resolution, P1 million has been set aside for construction and repair of protective dikes and retaining wall and sheet piling, P1.5 million initially for auxiliary services will be re-aligned for emergency shelter and livelihood assistance, as well as cash for work projects for Lando victims.

Blanco said another P1 million originally for financial assistance for informal settlers will be used to help indigent dengue patients in the province.

PSWDO head Elizabeth Baybayan said they are giving P2,000 to each dengue patient confined in any district hospital in the province.

“We must give aid to dengue patients so they can meet their food requirements to increase their platelet counts. In this way, we lessen risk to their lives,” Blanco also said.
