PNoy hands out relief goods to Lando victims

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Pres. Aquino led recently Cabinet members to distribute relief goods and other assistance to folk victimized by Typhoon Lando in Casiguran, Aurora.

    Aquino at the Casiguran municipal hall distributed food packs each containing six kilos of rice, eight canned goods, and six sachets of 3-in-1 coffee.

    Apart from food packs, he also handed out certified seeds and laminated sacks to affected families.

    During the visit Friday last week, he also ordered acting Energy Sec. Zenaida Monsada to heed the request of Casiguran to be connected to the Luzon grid amid lack of electric power in the town since last Saturday.

    In response, Monsada said seven neighboring electric cooperatives will be helping Aurora Electric Co. (Aurelco) in expediting the restoration of power in the province.

    “NGCP has also committed to restore the 69kV transmission lines by Saturday, meaning power in certain parts of the province will be restored as early as Monday,” Monsada said.

    For her part, Health Sec. Janette Garin committed P75 million for the rehabilitation of the Casiguran District Hospital which was severely damaged by Lando.

    This, even as Agriculture Sec. Proceseo Alcala told local folk his department would give 500 boxes more of certified seeds, 100 boxes of hybrid seeds, 10,000 pieces of planting materials of coffee, 5,000 tissue culture banana (saba and lacatan), and 500 boxes of complete fertilizer to affected farmers in the town.

    “Also part of DA’s immediate intervention is the distribution of 100 sets of motorized bancas and 10 units of shallow payao to affected fisherfolks in Casiguran,” Alcala added.

    For her part, Social Welfare and Development Sec. Dinky Soliman reported to the President that her agency has installed wifi capable v-sat at the municipal hall in Casiguran to enable residents to connect with their loved ones.

    “Also we have already provided 4,500 food packs to affected families in Casiguran. This is on top of the 400 food packs pre-positioned by the provincial government. We have likewise provided mosquito nets, hygiene kits, 18 sacks of rice, and nine sacks of canned goods to augment the distribution of relief goods,” Soliman noted.

    She also said her agency will also be providing emergency shelter assistance in the form of materials amounting to P30,000 for those whose houses were totally damaged houses and P10,000 for partially damaged houses.

    After the distribution of aid from the different agencies, President and his party inspected damaged infrastructure in the town.
