PORAC, Pampanga – Local residents and traders here now fear for their safety amid reports of  robbery syndicates targeting small business establishments over the past two weeks.

“Robbery is rampant here in Porac and we are really worried,” said some residents interviewed by Punto.

Agustin Resort in Gloriaville Subd. in Barangay Manibaug Paralaya here was  reported to have been robbed on July 25 (Saturday) by unidentified men armed with 9 mm pistols.

“Buti nalang hindi ako tinamaan ng bala nung paputukan ako, naalarma din siguro sila nung naglabasan ang mga kapitbahay namin kaya nagmamadali silang umalis,” said resort owner Jun Agustin in a text message.

He said their Kubota water pump was taken by the suspects.

“May mga bago pa ngang pinasukan ang mga sindikato, mostly mga welding business at nagpaparenta ng video machine,” he added.

Residents are blaming the lack of police visibility in their area adding that cops often come late, most of the time almost an hour after the incident.

However, they [residents] admitted that the global economic crisis “force others to commit unlawful acts.”

The Agustins are now asking Mayor Roger Santos to deploy more cops in their area, and even in other barangays here.

Meanwhile, Supt. Rolly Mendoza, chief of police here, told Punto that they have identified the robbery group operating in this town but refused to give details.

He said they have to wait for the warrant of arrest before giving any information to the media.

“Mabaho na nga ang Porac dahil sa mga poultry at piggeries, ngayon problema naman ang mga magnanakaw,” Agustin said.
