ANGELES CITY – The government prosecutor here backed the continuing detention of Royette Padilla, the controversial brother of matinee idol Robin Padilla and uncle of heartthrob Daniel Padilla, at the city jail here
after finding last Sunday probable cause on charges of grave threat and child abuse.

Police initially arrested Padilla after he allegedly fired his gun at the house of a neighbor owned by couple Efren David, 64, and Evelyn Bernardo,34, at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday. He, however, was expected to post bail yesterday.

Probers said Bernardo was with her family and the housemaid preparing dinner in the kitchen when Padilla, who sounded intoxicated, called her attention from the other side of the fence at the Redwood Villas inside the
    Clark Freeport Zone.

The complaint said Padilla fired his gun at the couple’s house when Bernardo did not come out. He then entered the couple’s gate and tried to pry open its screen door. Padilla is also a resident of the area within the freeport.

In their sworn affidavit to the police, the couple claimed the incident traumatized their two daughters, aged 8 and 11. The girls claimed hearing Padilla shout and threatened to put their mother in a sack. They said Padilla was
also holding a pistol in his hand and fired it several times.

Bernardo told probers she did not respond to Padilla›s call because she was afraid, knowing he had a pistol.

She also said that Padilla sounded drunk. She also said she heard Padilla›s threat to put her in a sack, so she and other members of the household went to the dining room where they thought they would be safer. It was there that they heard the first gunshot, she said.

Bernardo said Padilla then entered the garage and attempted to open the locked screen door while shouting “Nasan ka, magpakita ka! (Where are you, you better show up!).” She said Padilla then again fi ed his gun even
as she phoned for help from the security forces of the state owned Clark Development Corp. which manages the freeport.

The CDC sought help from the Angeles City police who found Padilla at the site with a 9 mm pistol. He did not
resist the arresting officers and went with them to the police station. Padilla denied firing his gun, although probers found slugs from the same pistol caliber at the residence of the complainants.

On Sunday, City Prosecutor Mark Oliver Sison went to the Police Station 4 where Padilla was detained to inquest him. He found probable cause to file charges against him and recommended his continuing detention.

The charges included grave threat and violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
