CAPAS, Tarlac – A significant step towards community food security and livelihood was taken here on Sept. 23 with the turnover by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 3 of the facilities of the Project LAWA at BINHI (PLAB) in Sitio Kalangitan Barangay Cutcut II.
The DSWD did not simple dole out ready assistance but through its Strategic Climate Adaptive Program, the agency engaged residents in a 20-day Cash-for-Work program addressing the threat of drought and its consequence of water and food shortage.
Representing DSWD 3 regional director Venus F. Rebuldela, Social Welfare and Development-Tarlac Disaster Response Management Division focal person Jhonel T. Yumul spearheaded the implementation of the project whereby beneficiaries constructed a small farm reservoir with 5,000 hito fries, a bamboo bridge, a bahay kubo, and a communal vegetable garden planted to okra, kamote, talong, kalabasa, sitaw, and gabi.
Joining the turnover ceremonies were Mayor Roseller Rodriguez and municipal social welfare officer Ma. Consorcia R. Corpuz, and Tarlac provincial social welfare and development officer Ma. Elena L. Jalos. DSWD-3/Punto Central Luzon
