SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ (PIA) — Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) Director Dionisio Alvindia presented the country’s cacao industry during the international symposium on Banana and Cacao Disease Management held at Tamagawa University in Tokyo, Japan.
The event forms part of the Project for the Development of Novel Disease Management Systems for Banana and Cacao (BaCaDM).

According to PHilMech, it is a technical cooperation initiative sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japan Science and Technology.
During the symposium, Alvindia—one of the project’s principal researchers—highlighted the cacao industry’s status, challenges, and future directions in the Philippines.
His presentation offered critical insights into the current cacao production landscape, postharvest disease management challenges, and strategic roadmaps for growth.
Through this effort, PHilMech contributes postharvest disease management and agricultural mechanization expertise to BaCaDM’s goal of sustainable production systems for stable banana and cacao supply chains. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
