CLARK FREEPORT —The Philippines has received a big boost in its wastewater treatment capabilities with the launching of Groon Philippines – a joint venture between one of the top environmental management companies in the country and a leading environmental technology company in South Korea.
Launched on June 6, the partnership between Soliman Ecowaste Management Corp. (SEMC) and Groon Co. Ltd. is expected to contribute to the long-term goals of environmental protection, sustainable industrial development, and water resource conservation of the Philippines.
“This is the beginning of a partnership that we believe can help bring better environmental solutions to the Philippines,” Groon Philippines chairman Dennis Soliman said during the launching event at the Midori Hotel in Clark Freeport last week.
“Our goal is simple–we want to provide practical environmental solutions that can help industries comply with environmental standards while supporting economic growth,” said Soliman, who oversaw the expansion of SEMC from a small wastewater treatment firm based in Pampanga into a major national industry leader.
SEMC and Groon Korea agreed to establish the joint venture in the Philippines after Soliman visited Korea where he saw for himself the potential of Groon technology and how it can help address wastewater treatment challenges faced by many industries today.
Established in 1999, Groon specializes in developing and manufacturing advanced, eco-friendly water and air treatment solutions. It is recognized for its proprietary oxidation system that is used in environmental remediation.
Groon’s technology is designed to treat complex and “difficult to handle” wastewater that often contain substances that are resistant to standard biological treatment.
Groon founder Dr. Lee In Ho said the partnership with SEMC marks a significant starting point for developing the environment and water treatment industries in the Philippines and ultimately improving the quality of life of Filipinos.
“By combining Groon’s innovative environmental technologies with the Soliman Group’s local networks and business capabilities, we expect to make a tangible contribution to ensuring clean and safe water, reducing environmental pollution, and promoting sustainable development in the Philippines,” Lee said.
