Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija – Over 200 mothers joined the simultaneous breastfeeding event on Sunday to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month in an event dubbed as Hakab Na at SM City Cabanatuan.

Kimberly De Vera an SM employee and a mother of Marcus Carmelo a four months old baby doesn’t deny the difficult challenges she encounters daily as a working mom.

“Challenging kasi kailangan ko provide yung 20 oz requirements ni baby. Habang nasa work ako pag may free time and break nagpapump ako. This is very important para sa kalusugan ng baby ko and also economical dahil sa sobrang mahal ng mga formula milk ngayon” said De Vera.

Hakab Na! 2018 gathered breastfeeding families, lactation experts, peer counselors, and breastfeeding advocacy supporters to boost awareness on the benefits and importance of breastfeeding.

It says that babies who are breastfed for at least two months may have a lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) during sleep than babies who aren’t nursed as long, a research review suggests.
It is supported by World Health Organization, breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival.

Breastfeeding mothers are also encouraged to hold their own Hakab Na! events at home, in their barangays, schools, or any place where they can gather. They can also participate in the online social media campaign with the hashtag #hakabna2018.
