CABANATUAN CITY -The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines NUJP) has called on the government to expedite resolution of the killing of businessman Manuel Lacsamana who also served as chairman of the board of the Central Luzon Media Association (CLMA) Nueva Ecija Chapter.

Lacsamana, 51, died due to multiple gunshot wounds from a .45 pistol when successively fired at by unidentified riding-in-tandem men along Mabini St., Barangay Quezon District here shortly before midnight Saturday.

A property developer and contractor, Lacsamana also heads the group of quarry operators in the province.

He owns a beach resort in Dingalan, Aurora.

As an associate member and board chair of CLMA, Lacsamana has been helping the group’s various activities.

He was reportedly contributor of the provincial paper The Media Messenger.

The NUJP, in a statement said that based on reports reaching it, Lacsamana’s murder may be more connected to his activities as a major property developer in Nueva Ecija.

“Nonetheless, he was associated with both a media outfit and a media organization,” the NUJP said.

According to the NUJP, the killing of Lacsamana closely followed the killing of a radio station employee in Marawi City.

Jessie Cano, a longtime utility worker in DXSO was shot dead at about 7 p.m. Saturday while on his way home in Barangay Cadayonan, Marawi City.

“The NUJP calls on the Philippine National Police as well as other government agencies to investigate these killings with dispatch with an end view of solving these violent crimes and bringing justice to the victims as soon as possible,* the statement said.

Senior Insp. Vladimir dela Cruz of the city police said investigators are collating all pieces of evidence, including witnesses’ testimonies in an effort to establish the motive as well as the identities of the suspects.

CCTV footages showed the gunmen tailed Lacsamana from Barangay Sta. Arcadia where he met with quarry operators but got an opportunity to fire after several kilometers in Mabini Extension.

Prior to Lacsamana’s killing, still pending before the police’s Task Force Usig are the killings of Nueva Ecija newsmen Julius Caesar Causo and Carmelo Mark Palacios.

Cauzo of radio station was killed in this city in 2012 while Palacios in Sta. Rosa town in 2017.

The latest gun attack that came less than two weeks after Zaragoza parish priest Fr. Richmond Nilo was killed which led to speculations that killers are on the loose in the province.
