NIA-UPRIIS, CDA equip irrigators association on coop governance, management

CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — The National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA-UPRIIS), in partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Central Luzon, equipped the Marikit-Abuyo Irrigators Association, Inc. with knowledge on cooperative governance and management.

This was through the “Training on the Fundamentals of Cooperatives: Governance and Management / Pre-registration Seminar for Cooperatives” conducted at the UPRIIS DRD Conference Hall.

Facilitated by the Institutional Development Unit, the activity oriented participants on the key features, benefits, and opportunities of government programs supporting cooperative development.

It also provided farmers with guidance on the application process to help them organize and register their cooperative.

During the activity, CDA Central Luzon Cooperative Development Specialist Margarita Gulapa discussed the cooperative registration process, including documentary requirements and legal procedures.

She also explained the benefits that members may gain upon the establishment of the cooperative.

NIA-UPRIIS Dam and Reservoir Division Manager Ronaldo Salazar said the agency continues to support farmers through access to institutional and livelihood development opportunities.

He added that strengthening farmers’ organizations through cooperative formation helps improve productivity and increase income.

Participants expressed optimism for the establishment of their cooperative, with NIA-UPRIIS supporting efforts to bolster farmers’ organizations and sustainable agricultural development. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
