CABANATUAN CITY – The National Food Authority (NFA) assured Novo Ecijanos on Tuesday that there would be enough supply of rice this “Christmas season and beyond.”

Edelino Alejandro, NFA manager for Nueva Ecija, said that latest inventory showed its warehouses in the province have over 350,000 bags of milled rice which, he said, can even last up to March of 2011.

“We do not expect any problem,” Alejandro said, adding that “we have comfortable stock inventory in Nueva Ecija.”

He said that besides the 350,000 bags of milled rice, local warehouses have some 150,000 bags of palay (unhusked rice) which can be milled when the need arises.

The official admitted that they have a hard time procuring palay because of typhoon “Juan”. His office scheduled a procurement target of 350,000 bags of palay but managed to buy only about 150,000 bags despite the availability of procurement budget.
