CITY OF SAN FERNANDO
An additional station and a linkage to a business district are being proposed to be included in the segment of the Malolos-Clark Railway Project (MCRP) here.

In a meeting Wednesday with officials of the Department of Transportation at the Heroes Hall,Mayor Edwin EdSa Santiago asked that another station be put up in Barangay Sindalan and a linkage be constructed from the city proper station going to Capital Town in Barangay Sto.

In his presentation, Santiago explained that Sindalan was selected to host the second station due to its strategic location, geographically at the center of San Fernando, and its daytime population of 230,000 that account for at least 21 percent of the city’s total population.

Sindalan is also home to several commercial establishments, including banks, restaurants, a mall, and high-end residential areas. It also provides fast access to other key areas such as private and public centers and major highways.

Santiago said that a straight linkage from the city proper to Capital Town will spur the both mass transport development and pedestrian mobility.

Capital Town is a 35.6-hectare mixed-use urban township being developed by Megaworld Corp. in Barangay Sto. Niño, a stones throw from the Pampanga Capitol

Atty.

“The partnership between the national and local government is really a key to maximize the potential benefits of the project,” Batan added.

As direct response to Santiagos proposals, the DOTr presented to the city government the options in realizing the two projects that include planning, budgeting, and actual construction phases.

The DOTr and the city government thereafter agreed to create a technical working group that will further review the proposals.

This is the second meeting between the two parties, coming shortly after the first only last Jan. 8 with the railway project’s contractors discussing the details of the exact railway project locations, the projects’ lengths, and the civil works descriptions.

The whole stretch of the 53.1-kilometer railway project which connects Malolos, Bulacan with Clark Freeport Zone and Clark International Airport is targeted to be completed by 2024.
