CLARK FREEPORT – After 68 years since its foundation on February 21, 1950, Jocson College (JC) continuous to live up to its mission of providing immediate employment for its graduates.
“So, as far back in those times, our founder has seen the opportunity that creates employment for our graduates.”
Thus, said Ma. Felisa “Leigh” Jocson, JC executive vice president, who was guest in the media forum “Talk Widus” organized by the Pampanga Press Club in cooperation with Widus Hotel and Casino here on Wednesday.
Jocson narrated the humble beginnings of JC by starting as a fashion school becoming a pioneer institution in cosmetology, dressmaking and tailoring, and evolving into the Jocson Junior College and eventually the present Jocson College.
“We are focusing on ready employment for our graduates,” she said announcing that 90 of their graduates will be deployed in Tokyo, Japan after their June 8 graduation where some will be fi nishing Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT), Avionics, Hospitality and Tourism.
Jocson said the Japan bound graduates came from 160 graduates of JC under the Bachelor of Science (BS) course in AMT, Tourism and Avionics.
Jocson, who recently arrived from a marketing mission in Japan, said the Japanese government as well as private institutions in in the hospitality business, like hotels and restaurants, need thousands of Filipino workers.
“We got that information as early as 2017 that is why our school has prepared for it,” Jocson said.
JC is now offering Hangul and Nihongo profi ciency training.
“We started with Nihongo language with our graduating students with associate degrees and graduates of a two-year course in hospitality,” she said.
“Because not everyone can finish a fouryear course,” she said.
“Hindi po nasayang ang suporta na binigay ng gobyerno in the form of senior high school vouchers kasi po kahit na two-year course lang mayroon na silang opportunity hindi lang local pati international employment (The support given by the government in the form of vouchers to poor senior high school students even if it is only a two-year course did not go to waste because they now have opportunities to work for local employers and even international),” she explained.
“Our curriculum is at par with ASEAN standards and as early as Grades 11 and 12, we prepare the students to the mandate of the Department of Education (DepEd) to prepare them for employment opportunities and prepare them for further studies in college,” she said.
“And prepare them for the world,” she added.
Jocson said since the beginning they have continuously provided employment opportunities for their graduates.
She said Lola Flor, who is now 81 years old, was a successful dressmaking graduate of the school.
“Lola Flor’s whole family is now in the US, She was a pioneer graduate in dressmaking from our school,” she said.
As proof of their commitment to their graduates, Jocson said her grandmother and JC founder Felisa Gomes Jocson was recognized as an outstanding Kapampangan by the Central Luzon Flyer together with other prominent Kapampangans like successful businessman Ruperto Cruz, Angelino Baltazar and Efren “Bata” Reyes in sports.
Meanwhile, Jocson said JC is now reviving its “Fashion School” in partnership with Korean Universities. “But our flagship courses are still aviation, tourism and hospitality because we are matching technically the demands of the industry,” she said.
“This at par with the development of Clark and the airport as well various hotels and restaurants in the region,” she added.
