CANDABA, Pampanga – Clark hotel executives and travel agencies yesterday vowed to support the Pampanga River Cruise launched by Mayor Jerry Pelayo and Gov. Lilia Pineda on December 16.

Holiday Inn- Clark General Manager Simon Morley said “of course we are supporting (the cruise) as it will benefit not just us but the entire tourism industry in Pampanga and Clark.”

He added that they are “more than willing to offer it in their hotel as part of the package.”

No less than Sen. Pia Cayetano and former Ms. Universe Gloria Diaz graced the opening of the river cruise highlighted by the performances of the “Ibon-Ebon” dancers.

Cecile Sanchez-Flores, resident manager of Hotel Vida, also vowed to support the cruise initially traversing least three towns – Arayat, Candaba and San Luis.

Flores said “activities like this make our tourists stay longer in Clark and Pampanga.” She said Vida’s general manager Daesik Han “expressed full support to wholesome, family-oriented activity.”

“We just have to help Mayor Pelayo promote it more,” said Flores.

Officers and members of the Association of Travel and Tours Agencies in Pampanga (ATTAP) were in full force during the launching of the project attended by Department of Tourism (DOT) regional director Ronnie Tiotuico.

Incoming ATTAP President Aurora Agustin of Amega Travel and vice president Gilda Padua of Ties That Travel said their group is “all-out for the success of the project.” ATTAP recently invited Pelayo as their special guest during their Christmas party.

Agustin said the Pampanga River Cruise “is preferred nowadays as both young and old, especially tourists, will enjoy it.” They vowed to aggressively help promote the project by including them in their packages.

Tiotuico, for his part, said he had been looking for someone to put new interesting activities in Pampanga.

“Thanks to Mayor Jerry. I am sure it will be a success,” said Tiotiucio.

Citing reports from the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), the DOT regional director disclosed that of late at least 25,000 people arrive at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) monthly.

“Most of them just pass by Clark because we lack more activities to offer. We must make most of them stay for awhile,” said Tiotuico.

Pelayo announced that the river cruise charges P400 per passenger. A snack goes along with it, he added.

“Proudly made products of Pampanga at competitive price will be offered during the travel,” said Pelayo.
